Opinion Prone

My opinions, let me tell them to you.

I actually wasn’t planning to make a big deal out of this anniversary since I’m not big on celebrating anniversaries in general and really haven’t had much in the way of meta posts here anyway. I haven’t accomplished as much as some other bloggers have in that year, and “142 posts” might be misleading since a lot of those posts were just to announce the completion of another review. :P But hey, I still like writing, and this blog is the most successful one I’ve ever run, so here’s to another year?

But oh, hey, I’m on WordPress now! And at the very least, I guess this move from Blogger to WordPress is significant enough to mention. (Update your RSS feeds, guys! Unless you were on my Feedburner feed, in which case, I’ve already updated it for you!)

It was a pain in the ass importing and retagging and categorizing everything, but I think it’ll be worth it. It’s also kind of sad that all comments have lost their identities beyond a plaintext name, but it’s better than nothing. I spent a couple of hours yesterday going through all my old posts and trying to fix metalinks so they link back to this new domain rather than the old Blogger one, but I’m sure I missed a bunch… can’t decide how obsessive I want to be about that. (If you spot any, though, please let me know?) A lot of the older posts also hotlink pictures from all over the place (my bad), so there are probably some broken images I should fix too…

I’m also going to be mirroring all my reviews from MAL on this site because I’m still annoyed about the lack of BBCode and want my italics back, dammit. For some reason, I’ve decided not to port over all my numerical ratings for reviews though? I never used numbers in my blog-only reviews, such as those for live action movies and music, so I guess it’s to keep some sort of consistency… then again, since my MAL reviews were off-site, I think I’m going to keep my reviews for anime and manga as pages rather than posts. I’ll still make a post about it every time I finish one, but the text of the review will be on a separate page. Unlike my reviews for everything else, which is usually in the body of the post. …My OCD makes no sense. :( But yeah, in the process of mirroring the MAL reviews — pardon my dust in the meantime.

I guess that’s really all there is to mention. I still have a ton of reviews backlogged, but I have something more special to post this week, so look for that first!

PS — Happy Father’s Day.

jajaja, what a useless word for a first comment, but some commenters love to write that word ONLY while some bloggers and youtube people hate it…

Congrats on this move and nice design as well. Hope to read more interesting posts from you in the future as well.

    Thumbs up.

Congratulations on your anniversary! It’ll be a few more months before mine so I appreciate the achievement.

    Keep up the good stuff!

@Toonleap: Haha, I’m only impressed when people manage to both shout “first!” and make a somewhat substantial comment. Like in your case here! :P Thanks, man.

@gl: I can’t believe your blog is younger than mine. It’s so much more full of stuff!

Cool, congrats with the move! Self-hosted is definitely the way to go. So did the wordpress import function miss a lot of stuff? I remember when I moved from blogger to WP it was fairly seamless, although I had a LOT less info to import.

  5. Kiriska on June 21, 2009 8:54 pm

@RP: Thanks! It was a pretty smooth import for the most part, though I would have loved for all the commenter information (URLs and gravatars, specifically) to have been left in tact. Most of the work was just the housekeeping afterwards — categorizing and retagging everything (WP imported all my Blogger tags as categories, which isn’t what I wanted) and fixing all the metalinks.

    Hear hear!

    Four More years! :P

As always continue to have fun with it.

Congrats on the anniversary and new self-hosted blog. If I were less lazy I’d follow your example and move my blog off of Blogger, but alas… Anyways, keep up the interesting reviews.

Congrats! WordPress is so much better than Blogger :)

And lol my one year anniversary is in two days.

  9. Kiriska on June 22, 2009 3:15 am

    @TheBigN: I wouldn’t mind another four years. :P

@TJ: The sooner you move, the less posts you have to fix when you do!

@Omisyth: Baww, all the more awsm blogs are younger than me! OTL.

Well done on getting the moving done with such little hassle (whenever I try to do this sort of thing lots of stuff breaks) and congrats on choosing WordPress…no system is perfect but overall it makes blog writing and maintenance so much easier. And yeah, self hosting automatically makes you cooler…

nice theme BTW – really clear and readable. There’s a whole tonne of plugins and add-ons for WP but I think a smart, easy-to-read page layout should always be a priority. Best of luck with your continued blogging and all that. ^_^

  11. Kiriska on June 22, 2009 1:52 pm

Yeah, WP’s interface and load of plugins are definitely what attracted me. The billion of themes are really nice too; if I had more time, I’d make my own, but there are enough choices that I don’t really need to. :3

Yessssssssss! I finally get to see my awesome starfish avatar on your blog! Congratulations on the move, though mine arrived late. The blog’s layout, font and colors are easy for the eyes yet attractive. Great job!

Personally, I feel that your blog posts have become more attractive to read. They’re thoughtfully written and some are beautifully presented with photos and pictures. Keep up the standards in blogging, cheers! (:

Hahaha, yes! I really do love the gravatar thing. XD Thanks for all the kind words though; I really appreciate it! :3
